As Real Madrid prepare to face Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup, Zinedine Zidane faced the press and gave his reasons for including Cristiano Ronaldo in the squad.
The Portuguese’s inclusion had surprise many.
“He is relaxed,” Zidane said to reporters in his pre-match press conference.
“What impressed me most is that he is as fit as the day of the Champions League final, and that is what interests me… his fitness.
“Ronaldo being with us means a lot, and it means he is ready to play, however, we will see if he does or not.”
Speculation surrounding Gareth Bale’s departure from Los Blancos is rife but the coach preferred to bat away questions about the Welshman.
“It is important the player is well,” he continued.
“He has trained continuously over the summer and it wasn’t easy for him at the end of last season because of injuries.
“What interests me is what we are going to do on Tuesday.”
There has been some debate about whether Real will play a 4-4-2 formation, a compact diamond or a 4-3-3.
“We are going to play using different formations as we always do, and that is something I won’t change,” Zidane noted.
“You will see how we play, but more midfielders because it will be a battle is something we wont do.”
