As Real Madrid train in Los Angeles, the only new arrival to have already linked up with the squad is
Theo Hernandez and it is clear from his first few sessions that he is up to the task.
He had other options available to him, but the 19-year-old picked Los Blancos, even though he knew he’d have to compete with the club’s veteran left-back
Marcelo for playing time.
Yet his desire to succeed in white is strong and he knows that Zinedine Zidane’s way of working will allow him opportunities.
It was clear that Fabio Coentrao had to move on this summer, so now that Marcelo has a reliable understudy the Brazilian could be rotated more often.
The teenager may need some to time to get up to speed, but he believes that he will already have an important role this season, as has happened with other youngsters to have featured in Zidane’s past squads, such as Marco Asensio or Lucas Vazquez.
Already welcomed into the squad, including by vice-captain Marcelo, Theo seems in his element and has spent a lot of time with the other younger players.
He’ll have another youngster and friend alongside him soon, when Marcos Llorente, his former Alaves teammate, arrives on July 20.
