It has been a long time waiting but 98 days after
Real Madrid won the 2016/17 LaLiga title with a win away to Malaga, they will be presented with the trophy on Sunday.
Many things have happened since that night on May 21 as, for example, Los Blancos have lifted two more titles by winning the domestic and continental Super Cups.
Prior to Sunday’s game against Valencia at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, the Spanish champions will receive their championship crown.
Their long wait to get their hands on the league trophy did cause some amusing incidents on the field at La Rosaleda after the final game of last season.
In particular Luka Modric and Gareth Bale had looks of bewilderment as they enquired as to the location of the trophy.
Cristiano Ronaldo and members of Los Blancos’ communication team were forced to explain that in Spain, the league winners do not receive the title after the game in which they have won it, as is the norm in some leagues such as England.
The trophy has however been sitting in the Bernabeu since Wednesday, waiting to be awarded to Sergio Ramos.
