It looks like there will be a plethora of Real Madrid players at the World Cup next summer as Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and Luka Modric all led their nations to key results over the international break.
Only Nacho Fernandez and Lucas Vazquez didn’t turn out for Spain over the weekend as 17 internationals took to the field of play, including the local quartet of Ramos, Dani Carvajal, Isco and Marco Asensio in La Roja’s 3-0 beating of Italy.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the star for Portugal as they continued to chase Switzerland at the summit of Group B, and the winger was one of four captains representing Los Blancos abroad, with Modric, Ramos and Marcelo all holding the armband.
The left-back was joined by Casemiro in the Brazil team for a win over Ecuador while Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas kept a clean sheet in the away win over United States , a huge win in their quest for Russia.
Key assists came via Modric and Kroos as the duo sent in free-kicks to seal late wins for Croatia over Kosovo and Germany over Czech Republic, respectively.
However Gareth Bale left the spotlight to Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn as Wales secured a crucial 1-0 win over Austria.
A surprise goal also came via Achraf Hakimi while on Morocco duty and the Spanish Under-21 side featured Dani Ceballos and Borja Mayoral, the latter scoring versus Italy in Toledo.
