Tuesday evening proved to be a night to remember for Real Madrid with victory over Borussia Dortmund in Germany seeing the Spanish champions’ streak without losing a Champions League group match stretch to five years.
Signal Iduna Park has been a generally unhappy stadium to visit for Los Blancos in recent years but thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, Real were able to end their poor run at the stadium with a 3-1 win.
It was actually the club’s first ever victory at the home of the German giants.
Now at 29 consecutive group stage matches without defeat, Los Blancos have won 22 and drawn just seven.
At a time when such matches are seen as an opportunity to rest players, especially when qualification is already secure, it is amazing that Real have been able to maintain such a standard.
