Real Madrid’s LaLiga season did not start as comfortably as the final scoreline from their win over Deportivo La Coruna might suggest, as Keylor Navas made two vital saves to keep it goalless early on.
Ever the main threat in this Depor side was Florin Andone, and the Romanian broke towards goal in just the sixth minute on Sunday night having outmuscled Dani Carvajal.
Faced with a tight angle, Andone crafted an effort towards the far post but Navas saw it all the way, athletically diving to his left and parrying the ball clear.
The striker got in behind again just two minutes later, this time attempting to beat the Costa Rican with a sly low shot between his legs.
Once again, Navas stood up strong and knocked the ball out for a corner with his feet to win out the early exchanges, after which Madrid got into gear and netted three goals.
However there was to be one more incident in this personal duel as Deportivo were awarded a late penalty, but Andone’s effort went wide with a little help from Navas’ fingertips.
