Amid speculation regarding Gareth Bale ‘s potential departure from Spain, Jose Mourinho confirmed his interest in the Wales international.
Manchester United are set to face Real Madrid for the European Super Cup on Tuesday and the Portuguese tactician indicated that if the 28-year-old forward isn’t part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans, the English giants will seek his acquisition.
“If Bale plays tomorrow, it’s an obvious sign that his plan is to remain at Real Madrid,” he said at his pre-match press conference prior the encounter against his former team.
“If he doesn’t play, I will fight with others who want to [sign him].
“If Bale is at the exit door, I would wait for him on the other side.”
After being asked about his relationship with his squad during his tenure in Madrid, Mourinho explained that he has nothing personal against any of his former players.
“My problems in football are always problems that remain in football,” he stated.
“With some of the players I have worked with – not only in Real Madrid, but also in Chelsea, Porto etc – I maintain relationships and with others I don’t.
“If I meet them on the street, I greet them.”
