Real Madrid were left to rue their missed chances as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Valencia on Sunday night, but Marcelo also felt that the visitors’ time-wasting had an impact.
He was upset to see his countryman Neto taking so long over goal kicks beneath the posts and said it was unbefitting of a club like Valencia.
“Valencia seemed to play like a small team with their time-wasting,” he said after the match.
The vice-captain also spoke about the absence of his superior Sergio Ramos and of Cristiano Ronaldo, but didn’t consider their suspensions as an excuse.
“Ronaldo and Ramos are two great players and they help us a lot, but we cannot think that we win just because of them,” the left-back said.
“This draw feels tastes like a defeat, as we should have won, but football is like this.”
Finally, he was asked about the incident when he fell inside the penalty area under pressure from Dani Parejo.
“I don’t know if Parejo’s action is a penalty or not, but he did touch me,” he stated.
Marcelo and the rest of his Real Madrid teammates are now looking ahead to the international break, after which they play Levante.
