Eden Hazard believes he has no chance of claiming the Ballon d’Or award this year and that Cristiano Ronaldo should win it, based on his performances last season.
The Belgian midfielder stated that the titles won by Ronaldo and his key role in Real Madrid’s success should seal the coveted prize for the Portuguese international.
“I do not have a chance to win [the Ballon d’Or] and I think a lot of players are better than me,” he told Sky Sports.
“But I am happy to be listed in the 30 candidates for the award.
“I think this year Ronaldo deserves it because he won with Portugal, he won LaLiga and he won the Champions League.
“If I want to win it in the future then I need to win everything [with my club and Belgium].
“I know I am on this list because I play for Chelsea and because I have great teammates and they help me to be on this list.
“I do not know if I will have the chance to win it in the future, but it is not my goal now.
“My goal is to play and be happy with my performances on the pitch.”
Hazard also told Sky Sports that he believes that Chelsea are a strong candidate to defend their Premier League title this season.
“Unlike last season, the two Manchester clubs are very good and they win their games, but I think we are equal with them,” he said.
Chelsea take on Crystal Palace this weekend as they aim to close the gap to those at the top.
