Cristiano Ronaldo named man of the match in Portugal’s Confederations Cup opener

Following Portugal’s 2-2 draw with Mexico, FIFA named Cristiano Ronaldo as the man of the match.

While he did assist Ricardo Quaresma for the opener, generously sliding the ball to his better placed teammate, some will find that decision controversial as he was largely frustrated against El Tri.

Speaking after the match, the No.7 explained that he and his fellow Euro 2016 winners were not too concerned by Hector Moreno’s late equaliser and that there is still plenty to play for in Russia.

“It wasn’t the result we wanted from a game we had almost won, but we let in a goal in the last minute and these things happen,” he said after the game in Kazan.

“There are two games left and now we must think ahead to the next one, which we need to win.

“There is no need to raise the alarm as we are fine and we are calm.”

Next up for Portugal is Wednesday’s clash with host nation Russia.
