APOEL could be Cristiano Ronaldo’s latest Champions League victim on Wednesday night, for the Portuguese has scored in his last five opening games in the competition.
Though there is an obvious difference in quality between Real Madrid and the Cypriots, Ronaldo’s five-game ban in domestic tournaments, and subsequent lack of action, will see him champing at the bit from the first whistle.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals
1. 12/13 Manchester City (1 goal)
2. 13/14 Galatasaray (3 goals)
3. 14/15 Basle (1 goal)
4. 15/16 Shakhtar (3 goals)
5. 16/17 Sporting (1 goal)
The striker has scored total of nine goals in the first group matches of the last five seasons, and they are shared between Manchester City (one in 12/13), Galatasaray (three in 13/14 ), Basel (one in 14/15), Shakthar (three in 15/16) and Sporting (one last season).
Since Dinamo Zagreb stopped Ronaldo at the start of the 11/12 edition, no one has been able to repeat the feat.
