Cristiano Ronaldo surely would never have imagined a start to the season quite like this where he has missed the first four LaLiga matches through the suspension picked up in the Supercopa de Espana and he has had to satisfy his desire for goals in the Champions League where he now has four from two games.
In the league it is different and he has not scored in the first two LaLiga games that he has been able to play for Real Madrid which means that he is now 90 minutes from his worst start in the domestic championship.
Ronaldo’s first league match was against Real Betis where he failed to score despite continually causing a threat but from 12 shots only two were on target and Adan was able to block. Next up were Alaves where he had two shots on target from eight games but no goals.
Never since he arrived at Real has he failed to score in his first LaLiga games but he did have a similar situation to what he is going through now in four seasons.
In the 2010-11 campaign he scored against Real Sociedad after failing in clashes with Mallorca and Osasuna. Then in the 2012-13 season he scored his first goal in the third LaLiga match against Getafe and the following year again he scored his first against Athletic Club in the third game.
The last time that the Portuguese was unable to score in his first couple of matches was two years ago when he failed to hit the back of the net against Sporting Gijon and Real Betis but got his first against Espanyol, who Real now face, in spectacular fashion with five goals.
