Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez was at training on Saturday to greet the players – with one man in particular in his sights: Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano returned to work this weekend after just over a month off, going through his paces alongside his team-mates at Real’s Valdebebas training base, before doing individual drills with one of the club’s fitness coaches.
Cristiano’s sights set on Spanish Super Cup first leg
The Portuguese striker is thought to be eyeing a first appearance of the season in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona, which is on 13 August.
After the session, Pérez was seen talking to Cristiano in what was their first face-to-face since the player was reported in June to have decided to leave Spain over accusations of tax evasion, for which he appeared in court on Monday.
Pérez’s defence of the 32-year-old in several interviews is understood to have calmed the situation – although the footballer himself is yet to say anything publicly.
Serious-looking Cristiano pictured talking to Real chief
Real Madrid published two photographs of the pair together at the club’s training ground, with Cristiano maintaining the same serious demeanour that he had displayed throughout the day’s work-out.
The content of their conversation has not been revealed, but is likely to have revolved around the summer turmoil over the ex-Manchester United ace’s future.
Following their four-game tour of the United States,
Zinedine Zidane’s side’s next fixture sees them take on United in the UEFA Super Cup in Skopje on Tuesday.
