Carvajal: Real Madrid managed to draw, but didn’t take two clear chances

In what was one of the most memorable matches of the season so far, Real Madrid drew with Valencia 2-2 after a late Marco Asensio equaliser, yet Dani Carvajal believes the team missed two chances to win the match.

Geoffrey Kondogbia’s well-taken goal looked as though it would be enough for Marcelino’s team to take a priceless three points off the reigning Spanish champions, before the young superstar delivered yet again.

In his post-match interview with Movistar+ the right-back made clear that whilst managing to draw was a positive, there were in actual fact two chances missed that would have won Los Blancos the game.

“We have managed to draw and take a point but we had two very clear chances that we didn’t take,” he explained.

Asensio’s performance will live long in the memory of those present at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday with the 21-year-old scoring a brace.

In the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, and with Gareth Bale putting in a sub-par performance, it was crucial that the former Mallorca star performed, and that he did.

Carvajal was quick to praise him and his contribution to the team’s efforts.

“He is a great player, he is proving this every week and that helps us a lot,” he said.

Matches between Los Blancos and Valencia are always interesting affairs given the competitive rivalry between the two clubs and the former Bayer Leverkusen full-back complimented Los Che on their spirited display.

“Valencia is a great rival and, while we have had many very clear chances, they have taken advantage of they had.”

It means Real Madrid and Valencia both have four points from their first two fixtures.
