A long and difficult road back into the France team looks to be beyond Karim Benzema while Didier Deschamps remains in charge but the striker holds out hope of a return.
Not since April 2016 has the 29-year-old been considered by the national team coach following his implication in a sextape scandal surrounding Mathieu Valbuena.
“I always think I’m coming back, I have never lowered arms, but that does not mean it’s an obsession,” revealed the Real Madrid striker.
“It’s true that I think about the national team, but I work day by day on the pitch.”
Benzema has insisted that it’s his instinct to look for success on the international stage as well as at club level.
“I am a competitor and I always like it when the national calls me up,” stated Benzema.
“When all your teammates are called up and you stay here, for a player like me, it’s difficult.
“I have to do a good job at Real to get back in soon.”
