Sensational strikes are becoming the hallmark of Marco Asensio who has been delivering on the biggest stages with goals in the Champions League final and both home and away in the Supercopa de Espana.
He might always appear to be celebrating a goal recently and that is because he has a remarkable record of three goals from his last four strikes.
The first came in Cardiff where he helped to rubber stamp the victory over Juventus with a goal in the 90th minute having come onto the pitch eight minutes earlier. He hit his team’s fourth on the night as he slotted home from a Marcelo cross from the left.
Asensio has started this campaign where he finished the last as he threatened in the European Super Cup and went close to a goal against Manchester United having come onto the pitch for the final 15 minutes but failed to beat De Gea.
Exhibition against Barcelona
Two out of two as he got goals from both his strikes and really laid evident what he can offer for Real Madrid this season. Again he began on the bench at Camp Nou and came on midway through the second half which gavehim enough time to bring even president Florentino Perez to his feet with an unstoppable shot that goalkeeper Ter Stegen could do nothing about.
The tie may have been all but over ahead of the second leg but still Asensio had something up his sleeve and it only took him four minutes to bring the Bernabeu crowd to its feet with a 25-yard drive that left Ter Stegen floundering.
Another shot and another goal to leave coach Zinedine Zidane with a selection headache before LaLiga kicks off.
“I work in order to have as many minutes as possible,” said Asensio.
“I am very happy personally and for the team.”
