Although Deportivo La Coruna will not come up against Cristiano Ronaldo when Real Madrid visit for the first game of the season, Alejandro Arribas has played down the significance of his suspension.
The Portugal international has been hit with a five-game ban for pushing the referee during Real Madrid’s 3-1 Supercopa de Espana win over Barcelona in the first leg at the Camp Nou and that sanction ban will see him miss his side’s visit to Deportivo.
“When you have a squad as complete as the one which Zinedine Zidane has, then missing one player doesn’t influence things too much,” said the defender.
“If Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t play, then Marco Asensio will play or Isco will play or whoever else they pick.
“They are the best in the world and such a complete team that one player isn’t very influential.”
The absence of Ronaldo isn’t the only thing which could potentially be a boost to Depor as they host Los Blancos just four days after the second leg of their Supercopa clash on Wednesday night, but even that isn’t something Arribas believes will benefit his side.
“I don’t think it will have much influence on our game against them,” he continued.
“They are playing for a trophy and then we play the first game of the season, which is important because points are at stake.
“But they have a very large squad and no matter who plays, they are a superb team.
“We will just look at ourselves and focus on what we can do.”
The match at the Riazor takes place this Sunday evening at 22:15 CET.
